£24m Arsenal target now close to signing new contract after performing U-turn

Mathys Tel is now close to signing a new contract with Bayern Munich – despite interest from Arsenal.

That is according to Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany.

So, what is the latest on Mathys Tel following links to Arsenal? Let’s take a look…

Mathys Tel set to sign new contract
Well – according to BILD in Germany – Arsenal are monitoring the Frenchman amid a lack of playing time under Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich.

The 18-year-old has made just one start in the Bundesliga this season.

BILD added that Tel was becoming frustrated with his role at the Allianz Arena – with Manchester United also being alerted to the situation – and wanted to leave.

Now, however – according to Plettenburg – Bayern Munich have held internal talks with the teenager in which assurances over playing time have been provided, with a contract agreement close after he performed a U-turn.

Furthermore, the Sky Germany journalist adds that Tel aims to become a legend at Bayern Munich, which suggests the €28.5m (£24m) man will not be moving to the Premier League anytime soon, barring any shock developments.

The France U21 international has impressed when coming off the bench this season, scoring seven goals while providing four assists in 31 appearances – no wonder he wants to start more often.

Arsenal have alternatives to Mathys Tel
Tel would have been a seriously exciting addition to Arsenal’s crop of young stars under Mikel Arteta.

Nevertheless, the Bayern Munich No.39 is not the only forward linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

A story from the Mirror claims that Arsenal are favourites to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford this summer.

There has also been talk of a potential move for Napoli No.9 Victor Osimhen, as detailed by Calcio Napoli 24 – the Nigerian is, however, said to be keen on a switch to Chelsea.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Arsenal, as a new striker could arrive this summer.
