Alan Shearer doesn’t name a single Man City player in his Team of the Season so far and leaves out Liverpool star

Alan Shearer has caused controversy after naming his Team of the Season so far.

The Newcastle legend selected his team of the season so far on behalf of the Premier League but did not include a single Manchester City player.

Pep Guardiola’s outfit won a historic FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League treble last season, but have yet to locate their best form this time out.

Having seen midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne suffer a hamstring injury in the opening game of the season and talisman Erling Haaland fail to repeat last year’s ruthlessness in front of goal (while still notching a league-high 14 times) City are languishing in third in the Premier League.
Shearer also caused controversy from the off-set by selecting Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario in goal.

While the Italian has been in imperious form for Spurs since signing from Empoli this summer for around £15.9million, fans on social media have insisted Liverpool’s Alisson Becker should have been selected instead.

Shearer selected a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, William Saliba, Virgil Van Dijk and Destiny Udogie.
Protecting the defence is a midfield two of Declan Rice, who has been central to Arsenal’s fortunes since signing for £105million from West Han this summer, and Douglas Luiz.
Luiz has been among Aston Villa’s stand-out players this term, with Unai Emery’s side currently second in the Premier League table, just three points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.
Shearer has selected an extremely attacking quartet ahead of the midfield pair, with the Premier League’s joint top scorer (alongside Haaland) Mohamed Salah on the right flank.
On the left Shearer has picked Son Heung-min, who has become Spurs’ talisman this term after the summer departure of Harry Kane.

Ollie Watkins, who has scored nine goals and claimed eight assists in the Premier League this season, and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, have been selected to lead the line for Shearer’s side.

Naturally, Aston Villa’s Emery has been selected as the team’s manager.
