Arsenal aiming to beat Manchester United to £9m bargain transfer

Arsenal and Man United are both looking to improve their defences in the summer transfer window

Arsenal are reportedly aiming to beat Manchester United to the transfer of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Luca Netz this summer.

The Gunners have impressed defensively this season with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes becoming an impressive partnership at the back. Mikel Arteta’s side have also conceded the least amount of goals in the Premier League season with their defence parting just 24 times.

However, it is fair to say that strength in depth is lacking at left-back for the North London club with Oleksandr Zinchenko the only recognised left-back in the first-team squad. But, it is clear that Arteta will soon be trying to address this issue.

According to HITC, Netz is on the radar of Arsenal. The 20-year-old has featured for Monchengladbach heavily this season and has developed well since his departure from Hertha Berlin in 2021.

So far this campaign, Netz has played on 25 occasions bagging five assists in the process. Such performances are believed to have caught the eye of the Premier League clubs with Arsenal and United having sent scouts to watch the German defender.

Erik ten Hag is likely to be on the lookout for a left-back in the summer having suffered with persistent injuries in this area all season. Tyrell Malacia has not played a minute all campaign while Luke Shaw has suffered two serious injuries.

Netz is considered to be a frugal option for the upcoming transfer window with transfermarkt valuing him at just £9m. At this stage, it is unclear whether a formal approach will be made by either Arsenal or United in the summer.
