Arsenal ‘can afford’ Ivan Toney alternative as Edu weighs up £85m Chelsea transfer blow

Arsenal are in the market for attacking reinforcements. Viktor Gyokeres has became the latest goalgetter to be mooted

Arsenal want Sporting CP talisman Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports, and it has been suggested that the Gunners can afford the striker. However, Mikel Arteta’s side face competition from their European rivals, as well as Premier League neighbours Chelsea.

The Sweden international has enjoyed a fruitful debut campaign with the Liga Portugal leaders, scoring 18 goals in the league – adding seven assists. The 25-year-old already has 32 goals in all competitions, 36 games into his Leones career following his summer move from Coventry City.

Coventry narrowly avoided promotion to the Premier League in the Championship playoff final after suffering defeat to Luton Town. Gyokeres attracted interest from around Europe and the English top-flight with the likes of Everton reportedly interested

After a strong start to his career in Portugal, Gyokeres is attracting interest from the Premier League again. Arsenal are eyeing attacking reinforcements in the summer and have been subject to speculation with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney in recent months.

The towering forward is the latest name on the list of targets at the Emirates Stadium and according to Di Marzio, Arsenal can afford the striker. “It’s probably the right moment for Viktor Gyokeres to leave Sporting now, also to get another chance in England after he left Coventry,” he told

“When players are doing so well in Portugal, the clubs will sell the players. They understand when the right moment is.

They will ask for more than €50 million (£42m) and they will probably demand his exit clause price, which is €100 million (£85m). Arsenal want Gyokeres as do Chelsea – AC Milan don’t want to pay that much

“He was a target for AC Milan but they don’t want to pay that much for him. Only the Premier League clubs can afford him, so Chelsea or Arsenal can afford him, and Arsenal wants him because they need a striker.”
