Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, a player they could’ve landed for just £1 million four years ago.

The Gunners could do with reinforcements in multiple areas of their squad. Nothing is likely this month, but Branthwaite has been named as a target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal could’ve signed Jarrard Branthwaite for £1m

Jarrad Branthwaite has become a star for Everton this season, and he has been linked with a move to a number of big clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in the 21-year-old, while Manchester United are also watching him ahead of a potential move in the summer.
Arsenal are the latest team to be linked with a move to sign Branthwaite, with Alex Crook claiming this week that the Gunners are tracking the situation along with Newcastle United and Real Madrid.

The North Londoners’ interest in Branthwaite, however, isn’t new.

BBC Sport Cumbria reported back in December 2019 that Arsenal, along with Everton, were scouting Branthwaite, who was playing for Carlisle United back then.
The Gunners could’ve made their move at the time, but they didn’t.

Everton capitalised on that and sealed the deal to sign him a month later, in January 2020, for just £1 million (Daily Mail).
Branthwaite will cost £75 million now

£1 million is nothing for a club as big as Arsenal, but the Gunners’ decision to not take a punt on Branthwaite four years ago could cost them millions now.
Mikel Arteta‘s side are right to target Branthwaite. The 21-year-old is a complete defender – he is good on the ball, excellent in the air, and his positioning has been described as ‘unbelievable‘ by Dutch journalist and pundit Suleyman Ozturk.

All these factors make him a very valuable asset for Everton, which is why the Toffees have slapped a £75 million price tag on his head (Football Transfers).

It’s unclear if Arsenal will pay such a high fee for Branthwaite, but there must be some regret about not taking a chance on him for just £1 million back in 2020.
