Arsenal full squad revealed for Porto as Mikel Arteta’s Gabriel Martinelli decision made

Arsenal news as the Gunners prepare for biggest European night in years with near-perfect squad ready for selection

Mikel Arteta is close to having the ideal set-up ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Porto on Tuesday. The Gunners are aiming to overturn a one-goal deficit having lost the away clash two weeks ago.

Having been out of Europe for such a long period, and the record in the early to mid-2010s being middling at best, it is the biggest night at the Emirates Stadium for some time. Coming off the back of an emotional but crucial 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday, Arteta is set to have almost his entire squad available.

Having welcomed back key trio Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey, and Fabio Vieira in the 6-0 victory at Sheffield United one week ago, there are now very few injury problems for the manager to consider. Oleksandr Zinchenko made his own return against the Bees as a substitute whilst Takehiro Tomiyasu is now in training with his teammates as well

The Japanese defender will be in contention to feature against Porto after getting back onto the grass at the Sobha Realty Training Ground on Monday. He has been out since the turn of the year with fitness problems either side of the Asia Cup.

We still have 24 hours and we’re trying to have everybody fit and available,” Arteta said ahead of the game. “Not many updates.” He added: “He [Tomiyasu] did the first part [of training].”

If the 25-year-old is in contention then Gabriel Martinelli is surely out. He was seen on Saturday with a protective boot and walking on crutches after the game as he headed through the mixed zone and into the changing room by He unsurprisingly didn’t train alongside his squad ahead of the match.
