Arsenal get major Bukayo Saka injury boost after best-case Mikel Arteta scenario confirmed

Arsenal news – Bukayo Saka has been named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming international break despite having a hamstring injury

Mikel Arteta may be set for a surprising Bukayo Saka injury boost despite the Arsenal star being called up to the latest England squad. Prior to the Champions League clash with RC Lens, Saka had limped off in the previous two Premier League games, but he was still named from the start in France.

To Arsenal fans, seeing Saka included in the squad for fixtures against Australia and Italy resulted in mixed reviews with some hopeful it meant the 22-year-old was not entirely ruled out of the weekend. However, Gareth Southgate’s reasoning for his selection, which closely followed the announcement, handed out less optimism.

“He’s [Saka] still being assessed so obviously they’ve got a big game this weekend and then there’s another seven days before we play Australia and then another ten days before Italy, so we’ll monitor everyone.” Saka has missed just one game in all competitions this season for the Gunners, despite impact injuries making him a big doubt on a number of occasions already this season.

In the September international break, England travelled to Poland for a clash with Ukraine before beating Scotland at Hampden Park. With the Three Lions having to play two away games, the upcoming games will be played in England which is actually a significant boost for Saka if he is passed fit for international duty.

In the previous international break, the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Cristian Romero, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo were doubts heading into the return games with their respective clubs due to fatigue, with significant travel required while also playing in an entirely different time zone.

Saka playing both games on home soil will be a welcome sight for supporters if he is allowed to depart London Colney. The timing of the October break is also ideal for the Gunners, if Saka is able to play against Man City, with Arsenal able to prevent the Hale End grad from playing for his country if there is still an issue prominent and a welcome rest would give him the chance to recover properly from any knocks or niggles.
