Arsenal have just rejected title-winning club’s approach to sign their ‘world-class’ player

Arsenal have turned down advances from Serie A champions Napoli to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu in this month’s transfer window.

It’s still unclear if Mikel Arteta‘s side will be active on the market this month, but the one clear thing is they will not sell their key players. Tomiyasu is definitely one of them.

Arsenal reject Napoli’s approach to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu
Arsenal signed Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna on transfer deadline day back in 2021.

The Japan international became an instant fan favourite at the Emirates. He has mostly been amazing for the Gunners whenever he has played, but injuries have been really cruel to him over the years.
Tomiyasu has missed 43 games for club and country since February 2022. That has led to people calling him unreliable because he just can’t stay fit.

However, Arsenal still think Tomiyasu is a key player, which is probably why they have made it clear to Napoli that they will not let him or Jakub Kiwior go this month.

Italian journalist Ciro Venerato said yesterday on Tg Sport on RAI Play: “Last night (Sunday) too, Arsenal reiterated their no for Kiwior and (above all) Tomiyasu, the true passion of the Campania management.”

Tomiyasu still has 18 months left on his contract and Arsenal have the option to extend that by another year.

Arsenal are in talks to hand Takehiro Tomiyasu a new contract
There was no way Arsenal were going to sell Takehiro Tomiyasu this month, especially as they are in talks to extend his contract.

The Japan international, who Ben White thinks is ‘world-class‘, is viewed as a key player by Mikel Arteta, and the Arsenal board are close to tying him down to a new deal.

Fabrizio Romano revealed last week that “conversations between Arsenal and Tomiyasu are advancing to the final stages to sign a new contract very soon”.

That should end all the speculation surrounding Tomiyasu’s future.
