Arsenal in prime position for ideal Mikel Arteta transfer after Man Utd ‘ban’

Arsenal are long-term admirers of Newcastle forward Alexander Isak, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester United

Arsenal could be in an prime position to sign Alexander Isak this summer having been keeping an eye on the talented forward. Manchester United have also shown interest in the Newcastle United star, but a deal might soon become impossible for the Old Trafford club.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that he wants to bring in a new striker this summer, and there are several names on Edu’s wishlist. Victor Osimhen from Napoli and Ivan Toney from Brentford have both been linked with a move to Arsenal, and Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna is also a possibility.

But the Gunners have had their eye on Isak for a while now, and they might try to tempt the Sweden international away from St James’ Park at the end of the season. The former Real Sociedad player has been doing well at Newcastle, showing his versatility in different positions and systems for boss Eddie Howe.

There is increasing speculation that Newcastle may need to sell some players to meet financial rules. If Isak is up for sale, Arsenal won’t be the only club interested.

United are also likely to hold an interest might have to cross his name off their striker shopping list. Newcastle are thinking about saying ‘no’ to any deals with the Red Devils, reports the Express.

This is all because of Dan Ashworth’s future. Newcastle want considerably more than £3m to allow transfer guru Ashworth to become United’s new sporting director.
