Arsenal injury latest as Mikel Arteta faces 4 missing Wolves clash amid Bukayo Saka update

The latest Arsenal injury news ahead of the visit of Wolves to Emirates Stadium with Mikel Arteta facing four players missing their match amid an update on Bukayo Saka.

Top-flight football returns to north London for the first time in nearly a month this weekend. Arsenal last hosted a Premier League fixture at Emirates Stadium when Burnley fell to a 3-1 defeat. But the Gunners thrashed RC Lens 6-0 on Wednesday with Saka among their stars.

Saka helped take Arsenal to a resounding win to get the top spot in their Champions League group. But Lens often resorted to fouling the 22-year-old throughout the Group B tie before Arteta substituted him. The winger left the tie with a goal and one assist in the 66th minute.

Arsenal’s injury list ahead of hosting Wolves with Saka fit

Fans could have feared another injury for the Hale End hero as the Arsenal academy product has already suffered foot and thigh problems this season. But Saka actually went on to share his disappointment at being substituted against Lens. The winger wanted to play the full tie.

Having Saka fit against Wolves on Saturday will be a big boost to Arteta but the Arsenal boss faces other injury concerns. The treatment room at London Colney continues to have guests this season. So, ahead of Wolves’ visit to Emirates Stadium, here is Arsenal’s injury situation.

Fabio Vieira injury latest

Arteta confirmed ahead of Arsenal hosting Lens that Fabio Vieira had undergone surgery on a groin injury. The 23-year-old is facing weeks on the sidelines due to the problem and likely will not return before January. But he would have been suspended against Wolves, anyway.

Vieira missed Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Brentford last weekend while he served the first game of his three-match suspension. The Portuguese playmaker picked up a straight red card in the win over Burnley. He would have been available to Arteta in the Champions League, though.

We’ve got a problem with him,” Arteta admitted, via the Mirror. “He’s been having some discomfort. We tried to have some conservative treatment with him. It wasn’t improving, so we sent him to see a specialist and the advice was to have an operation in his groin.

“We did that [Monday]. We expect him to be out for weeks now, we don’t expect him to do that [play before January]. Let’s see how he evolves. The job, it was done yesterday so we’ll have to wait and see. It will take weeks, I think.”

Arsenal are likely to be without Emile Smith Rowe until 2024 as the midfielder recovers from a knee injury. The 23-year-old suffered his issue against Sheffield United while getting a rare start in the Gunners’ 5-0 win. Now, football.london reports he may be out until the New Year.

Arteta is keen to avoid putting an exact timeline on the Hale End product’s return. But it may be possible for Smith Rowe to return before Arsenal start their FA Cup campaign in January. The Gunners enter the competition in the third round with games to be played on January 6.

“It is a possibility but it will depend on how they evolve,” Arteta noted, via Goal. “Emile has already been on the pitch doing some jogging. I don’t know weeks-wise how long it’s going to take. Emile is a quick healer.”

Thomas Partey injury latest

Arteta noted whilst addressing Smith Rowe’s injury that Arsenal could also welcome Thomas Partey back from injury before they join the FA Cup. The 30-year-old has been absent since the end of October and recently underwent a procedure to address a significant thigh injury.

“Thomas is the same,” Arteta continued. “They are both going to push but we have to make sure when they come back, they are at their best as well. We don’t want to rush them. But the team needs them because at the moment we are missing some key, key players as well.”

Partey suffered his injury during training ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Sevilla in the Champions League. He had also only just returned from a groin issue prior to the October international break. The Ghanaian played the final 15 minutes as the Gunners beat Manchester City 1-0.

Jurrien Timber injury latest

The visit of Wolves to Emirates Stadium will mark just the latest Premier League fixture that Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has missed due to his ACL injury. He sustained the blow on his league debut for the Gunners in August. It also forced the Dutchman to undergo surgery.

Timber lasted just 50 minutes at home to Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the top-flight term. And, now, Ben Jacobs reports that Timber has suffered a setback and is unlikely to feature again this season. His hopes of playing at Euro 2024 next summer are in tatters.
