Arsenal land huge boost as Liverpool warned of player who gives Mikel Arteta ‘extra’

A round-up of the latest Arsenal news as Mikel Arteta gets a boost regarding Thomas Partey’s injury and John Barnes provides Liverpool with a warning about Declan Rice.

Sporting Lisbon boss is losing sleep about Arsenal’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres

Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim is now losing sleep over Arsenal’s interest in the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres. That is according to Correio da Manha, which has reported that Amorim fears losing the striker in January. Chelsea are also interested in his potential move.
Gyokeres has alerted a throng of teams to his potential with a flurry of consistent displays at Sporting this season. Teams are taking notice of the 25-year-old’s efforts since arriving from Coventry City in the summer after scoring 17 and assisting eight goals in just 20 games yet.
Sporting will demand that any outfit interested in Gyokeres’ transfer in January pays the full €100m (£87m) release clause in the Arsenal target’s contract. Yet the fee does not convince Amorim that they will retain the Sweden striker. He is increasingly fearful of Gyokeres going.

Arsenal land a boost regarding Thomas Partey’s return from a thigh injury

Arsenal now hope to welcome Partey back from his thigh injury when they host Liverpool in the FA Cup. That is according to the Evening Standard, which reports that the Gunners view the Emirates Stadium showdown on January 7 as a realistic date for the 30-year-old’s return.

Partey has been missing since the end of October after sustaining an injury during training at London Colney. He picked up the blow a day before their 2-1 win at Sevilla in the Champions League. It was also Partey’s second injury issue this term following an earlier groin problem.

But the medical team at London Colney are pleased with the progress that Partey is showing in his recovery. He may even return for Arteta before Arsenal host Liverpool in early January. Partey is also itching to return to fitness at Arsenal before flying to the Africa Cup of Nations.

John Barnes warns Liverpool that Declan Rice gives Arsenal ‘something extra’
Liverpool legend Barnes has warned Jurgen Klopp that Rice gives Arsenal ‘something extra’ ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at Anfield. The Gunners head to Merseyside this weekend for a top-of-the-table tussle. Just one point currently splits the 2023/24 title rivals.
Arsenal have not won at Anfield since Arsene Wenger oversaw a 2-0 win in September 2012 through goals from Lukasz Podolski and Santi Cazorla. Arteta nearly matched the result last season. But the Gunners spurned a 2-0 lead and had to settle for a draw in the 87th minute.

Now, though, Barnes is the ‘most worried’ he has been for a few years for a match between Liverpool and Arsenal due to Rice. He thinks the midfielder takes the Gunners to a new level with his physicality. It is an area where the Reds icon feels Liverpool have dominated of late.

“This is a game I’m really looking forward to,” Barnes told The Anfield Wrap. “I’m not saying I’m worried about it. But this is probably the most worried I’ve been playing against Arsenal for the past three or four years.

“I think Declan Rice has really given them something extra from a strength point of view. I always felt we could overpower them but now they’re a strong physical side.”
