Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp joins Premier League icons in bid to takeover English club

The Arsenal legend is part of a group looking to buy a team in the lower leagues of English football

Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp is teaming up with football greats from Celtic, Liverpool and Barcelona in a stunning bid to buy an English club.

The Gunners hero is part of a star-studded consortium that includes ex-Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt and former Celtic and Manchester United striker Henrik Larsson. They’re also joined by Netherlands manager and Barcelona icon Ronald Koeman and Dutch agent Rob Jansen.

Speaking on a podcast, Jansen revealed their interest in buying an unnamed club. He said: “We are in the process of buying a club in England. I’m not allowed to say which club yet. I can say which group we will do it with. Ronald Koeman, Dennis Bergkamp, Henrik Larsson and Dirk Kuyt.”

He added that they’re looking at League Two or League One clubs. This isn’t the first time Larsson, Kuyt and Bergkamp have tried to buy a club – they attempted to purchase Wycombe Wanderers in 2019 but were unsuccessful.

Now, they’re reviving their plans, with a northern club being the most likely target. If successful, it could mean a new role for Bergkamp, who worked as a coach at Ajax until 2017.

Jansen added: “We do this with some people around us and we also have the financiers. It doesn’t have to be in London

The plan is to manage the football club in the broadest sense of the word. So the way we think it should be. Training, hospitality, merchandising, marketing, everything.

We have a group, and maybe one or two more will join. The names I mention will also do a certain job within the club. Henrik Larsson would like to become a head coach. Bergkamp will set up the academy. And Koeman also comes over to do his things.
