Arsenal make Bruno Guimaraes ‘contact’ as £100m Manchester City transfer threat emerges

Latest Arsenal transfer news as reports suggest contact has been made to representatives of Bruno Guimaraes – but the threat from Manchester City and PSG looms

Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs interested in Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes, with latest reports suggesting they have ‘made contact’ over a potential summer deal.

The Gunners have had another phenomenal season in the Premier League after taking the title race to the wire, with their fate now coming down to the final day. Arsenal need to beat Everton and hope Manchester City slip-up at home to West Ham United.

Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber were among the summer additions last year as both Rice and Havertz made key contributions throughout the campaign, while Timber edges closer to a return following a knee injury.

Arsenal have been tipped to add to their squad again this time around, with the club linked with a move for the 26-year-old Guimaraes, who has also attracted interest from free-spending PSG. Manchester City are said to be in the driving seat to sign him, while understands that it is unlikely he will move to north London in the summer despite reports suggesting otherwise

Despite that, Ben Jacobs has claimed that the North London club have made contact with the midfielder but City are the ‘most active’ in the pursuit. It has been suggested that Guimaraes’ £100million release clause will become active in June.

“Newcastle also don’t want to lose Bruno Guimaraes, but the decision could be taken out of their hands if someone triggers his £100m release clause, which is valid between late May and the end of June,” he said.

As long as the clause is active, Newcastle are going to simply point to its value, but it’s understood offers exceeding £80m could be entertained should Guimaraes wish to leave for a Champions League club

It should be stressed, Guimaraes is happy at Newcastle, but it’s also true that both Manchester City and Arsenal have made contact with his camp.

“Manchester City are the most active of the suitors. Arsenal appreciate Guimaraes, but have no intention to trigger his clause meaning they would only enter the race if the price drops.

“PSG have also considered Guimaraes but decided against moving forward this summer, and will instead focus on trying to land Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.”
