Arsenal on red alert as Alexander Isak holds lengthy talks with Newcastle chairman

Alexander Isak was the only Newcastle player to be collared by PIF moneyman Yasir Al Rumayyan after the draw with Brighton on Saturday, as the striker’s future remains uncertain

Arsenal’s transfer target Alexander Isak was engaged in extensive discussions with Newcastle chairman Yasir Al Rumayyan on Saturday, amidst growing transfer interest from the Gunners.

The Swedish striker, valued at £120million and high on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist, was notably the only player to be approached by PIF’s financial heavyweight Al Rumayyan following the stalemate with Brighton. Isak, joined by his family, was seen conversing with Al Rumayyan on the St James’ Park turf following the 1-1 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Isak’s impressive goal tally has sparked conversations about a lucrative new deal, as he stands to significantly boost his earnings with a move to a top-tier Champions League side. Al Rumayyan, who oversees Newcastle’s purse strings through the Saudi state investment fund and also heads LIV golf, was present to evaluate the season’s progress and discuss upcoming strategies for the summer and beyond

Despite a lacklustre performance against Brighton due to illness the previous day, Isak’s potential was clear. Manager Eddie Howe expressed satisfaction with the unity shown by club owners, including Amanda Staveley who holds a 5.6 per cent stake, mingling with players, staff, and their families post-match.

Howe highlighted the importance of unity at the club, saying: “The big thing is you want the club to be one team and we have had that since we are here… owners, players, staff.” He added, “It is really healthy that they come on the pitch at the end. Everyone showing their appreciation for each other and especially us to the supporters.”

Arsenal are expected to be on the lookout for a new striker in the summer transfer window, with academy graduate Eddie Nketiah expected to be moved on. As well as Isak, Sporting Clube De Portugal’s Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
