Arsenal

Arsenal player ratings vs Liverpool as Rice and Gabriel superb but Martinelli and Zinchenko poor

David Raya: Some will say he should have done better for the goal, but Salah’s near post strike was a fine finish. The Spaniard was composed in possession despite the Anfield noise and claimed crosses well. 7.

Ben White: Some very good defending up against Diaz first and then the potentially troublesome Nunez. Couldn’t overlap often but not a weak point by any stretch. 6.

William Saliba: Absolute class for the most part. Dealt with the physicality of Gakpo, the pace of Salah and the prowess of Diaz. Some excellent moments on the ball too. 8.

Gabriel: Led by example in keeping his composure at the back. Good on the ball and defensively excellent particularly in one-on-one duels with Salah. A superb header for the Arsenal goal too. 8.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: One of Arsenal’s most composed players on the ball usually but time and again he was lax here. Played into trouble far too often and could have been punished for losing concentration on multiple occasions. Not at his best defensively for the goal either. 5.

Declan Rice: Just sublimed at the base of the Arsenal midfield. Stopped Liverpool’s attacks time and again and showed composure on the ball he doesn’t get enough credit for. 8.

Martin Odegaard: Would have been unlucky to have conceded the penalty. Key to what Arsenal did well early on and grabbed an assist. Faded massively as the game went on and couldn’t help the Gunners wrestle back control at Anfield. 6.

Kai Havertz: Worked incredibly hard off the ball. Was a real focal point for Arsenal as they looked to go long on occasion. Not as influential as he may have hoped for on the ball though. 6.

Bukayo Saka: Good in the early parts of the game particularly up against Tsimikas where he created a few chances. Struggled to get the better of Gomez at any stage though and was battled out of the game. 6.

Gabriel Jesus: Superb in the early parts of the game. Gave Arsenal an attacking threat and urgency when Liverpool were on top for periods. Faded in the second half though and missed a good chance at 1-0. 7.

Gabriel Martinelli: Looks to be a player really struggling with confidence. Liverpool are normally one of his favoured opponents but he was ineffective for the most part here. Played with his head down for much of the game and lost almost every one-on-one duel with Alexander-Arnold. 4.

Leandro Trossard: Offered much more threat than Martinelli had before him. Alexander-Arnold certainly had a rougher ride. Not always the best decision making though. 6.

Eddie Nketiah: A bit too weak in the duels against Virgil Van Dijk. Did put in some good tackles though to stunt Liverpool build up on occasion. 6.
