Arsenal press conference LIVE – Mikel Arteta on Brentford, Gabriel Martinelli and Jurrien Timber

Hello and welcome to tbfantasy live blog for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s press conference ahead of the Premier League clash with Brentford at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.

Arsenal will be looking to continue their fine goalscoring form for the visit of the Bees who very nearly stole a couple of points off the Gunners earlier in the season before Kai Havertz scored late on to snatch victory. With the UEFA Champions League match just days later, an opportunity to rest key stars by building up another unassailable lead would be ideal.

31 goals have been scored in the last seven league wins and with Brentford suffering a defensive crisis with Ben Mee, Ethan Pinnock, Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey all injured. Ivan Toney was even spotted limping off against Chelsea although any update on the England international is yet to be given.

Arteta is expected to provide an update on Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka who came off against Sheffield United last weekend. Meanwhile, further information is expected on the upcoming returns of Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Kaya Kaynak and Tom Canton will be bringing all the build-up and updates from the Sobha Realty Training Centre shortly. More to follow.

Emile Smith Rowe questions
As Arsenal strode to a five-goal first-half lead against Sheffield United, the eyes naturally get drawn to the bench to see who might get a chance. Mikel Arteta did indeed get the maximum use out of his five substitutions however there was no room for Emile Smith Rowe to come on.

Fabio Vieira replaced an ill Bukayo Saka at half-time before Cedric Soares, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus were introduced. Leandro Trossard was the final introduction who was brought on for the brilliant Declan Rice.

There was some frustration that Smith Rowe wasn’t given the chance but there are certainly explanations behind all of the choices Arteta made. When Saka came off for Vieira, this was the first chance to give the Portuguese player minutes since returning from injury as Arteta pointed out it was an opportunity they did not want to miss with such a commanding lead at the break.

Arsenal star will miss Brentford
Arsenal will be without one of their regular starters with the clash with Brentford this weekend as Mikel Arteta may need to navigate multiple changes to his squad for several reasons. The Gunners are on quite the run in the league winning their last seven games and scoring 31 goals in the process.

However, the victory was marred by the substitutions of both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. Mikel Arteta went some ways to easing fears regarding the pair post-match but it seems time is needed to know the extent of the issue.

“He was feeling a bit sick and as well we have Fabio who we have to give minutes,” Arteta said when asked about Saka. “It was great opportunity [for us] and then we had a little issue with Gabi Martinelli as well, he had a slight cut on his foot and we have to wait and see how he is.”
