Arsenal should be selling £27m player this month, not Emile Smith Rowe

After a troubling start to the year, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side seem desperate for January additions to boost their misfiring squad.

Ivan Toney is a name constantly linked with the club, but much like the rest of Arsenal’s targets, he seems too expensive in January.
Arteta and Edu Gaspar are said to be working under very tight FFP parameters, with it looking like players would have to leave for anyone to arrive this month.

That being said, four names have been most often mentioned as Arsenal’s most ‘sellable’ assets.
All of Aaron Ramsdale, Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson have been named by various pundits in recent weeks.

However, Arsenal fans will unlikely be too pleased to see any of the above leave – relatively young players who still hold a lot of potential.

And there’s one name that has rarely been suggested, that of Leandro Trossard.
Signed for £27m last January, the 29-year-old could now be the smartest player for Arsenal to cash in on.

Amadou Onana is now being mentioned as one of several possible January additions for Arteta’s Arsenal squad this month, and raising funds seems crucial.

Arsenal should sell Leandro Trossard to fund January additions to Mikel Arteta’s squad

At first fans might be thinking – why Trossard?

Well when you consider that the Belgian wasn’t introduced until the 88th minute with his side desperate for a goal against Liverpool, it tells a story.
Emile Smith Rowe was in a similar position, however, he’s at a different point of his career.

At 23-years-old Smith Rowe still has bags of potential, a player who will retain his value in the coming years if things don’t work out.

However, Trossard is considerably older, a player who is at Arsenal for the here and now.

And if he’s not playing an important role, then a departure could make a lot of sense.
As well as salvaging something from this season, Arsenal need to keep the bigger picture in mind – as Arteta and Edu always do.

And although Arteta’s squad is crying out for January additions, Arsenal might regret the departure of players like Smith Rowe, Nelson and Nketiah.

Moreover, with the January signings in mind, it might not even be the best idea for Arsenal to chase a striker this month.
