Arsenal tracking 21-year-old Spurs target deemed a ‘future England international’

Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on a Premier League player said to also be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.

The Gunners have joined Spurs and others in the race for Everton‘s Jarrad Branthwaite, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.
Arsenal are currently fairly well stocked in terms of central defenders, while Tottenham have just signed Radu Dragusin at the back.

However, there’s certainly scope for both the Gunners and Spurs to keep tabs on a player who has been making waves in the Premier League aged just 21.
Branthwaite has made his first-team breakthrough at Everton this term and has quickly made a name for himself as one of the league’s best young defenders.

Football Transfers reported in December that Tottenham want to sign the Everton centre-half, who is apparently valued at around £75million.

And Crook, speaking on TalkSPORT (16/1/24, 12:36pm), named Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester United and Real Madrid as suitors for the youngster.
Arsenal and Tottenham target Jarrad Branthwaite is ‘the most sellable asset’ at Everton

The transfer insider was speaking a day after the Blues were charged with breaching Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

“Well, Jarrad Branthwaite as you mentioned is just about Everton’s most sellable asset at this moment in time,” said Crook.

“Obviously, we’ve been speaking a lot about Everton’s financial issues in the last 24 hours, yet more alleged breaches of profit and sustainability rules.

“If they are to sell in the summer, and I’m told that there’s every chance they might now have to cash in on Branthwaite.
He is the most sellable asset because he counts as a home-grown player and we know that gives you maximum profit on the balance sheet.

“And there’s a lot of interest in Branthwaite, I know I’ve mentioned Manchester United in my transfer notebook previously.

“I think the Real Madrid rumours have got some substance because of course, Branthwaite played under Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park.

“Ancelotti has continued to monitor his progress, Arsenal are tracking the situation, Newcastle as well.”
Arsenal and Tottenham target Jarrad Branthwaite ‘has got everything’

Branthwaite very much ticks all the boxes for both Arsenal and Tottenham. He’s incredibly talented, he has his whole career ahead of him, and he’s already Premier League-proven.

If Everton decide to cash in on the 21-year-old, no doubt the Gunners, Spurs and many other clubs will intensify their interest and perhaps look to make a move.

However, there’s no doubt that Branthwaite won’t come cheap. After all, we’ve all seen what he can do in the Premier League, and his ceiling is incredibly high.

Branthwaite’s former manager Steven Pressley, who gave the defender his senior league debut at Carlisle United, knew the player was a star in the making.
Jarrad was just 16 when I first saw him play but he immediately made a big impression on me,” Pressley told evertonfc.com in 2020.

“It was about three weeks into my tenure at Carlisle and he was playing in the second team.

“He had so many quality attributes to become a top player.

“On the back of that one game, I phoned the Director of Football to get him tied up on a longer-term contract, which we did within two or three days.
From that moment on, he trained with the first-team every day.

“I told people he was a future England international.

“Not once from when I gave him his debut did I ever consider leaving him out again, because I felt his performances had been so strong.

“The truth is, I think he has got everything. He can pass the ball almost equally as good with both feet. He’s a terrific footballer.

“And if he continues to develop, then, without doubt, he can be an England player.”
