Chelsea news and transfers LIVE – Osimhen update, Diomande move, Gallagher exit, James surgery

All the latest Chelsea transfer gossip, news and injury updates throughout the day as the Blues prepare for the Christmas Eve fixture against Wolves in the Premier League

Chelsea have a couple of days to wait before they play in the first Christmas Eve Premier League match for 28 years. Mauricio Pochettino’s men take on Wolverhampton Wanderers with the hope of making it three wins in a week.

Blues fans will still be revelling in their penalty shootout success over Newcastle United in the midweek Carabao Cup clash. The tournament gives Chelsea a realistic chance of collecting a trophy in a season that has so far struggled to get going in the league at least.

In Mauricio Pochettino’s defence, his squad has been plagued with injuries from minute one and there is another pile up during the festive period. The latest setback is that Reece James will be out for a sustained period as a result of hamstring surgery.

On the other hand, Pochettino has received brighter news on other squad players with Christopher Nkunku closing in on his first start after coming off the bench in midweek. Ben Chilwell is also close to a return after celebrating his birthday at Cobham this week.

So, with that being said, stay with us at football.london as we keep you up to date on everything you need to know as it happens LIVE from Stamford Bridge..

John Terry and Jack Grealish send Ben Chilwell message as Chelsea handed injury boost
Chelsea legend John Terry sent Ben Chilwell his best wishes on the left-back’s birthday.

Terry, 43, has not played for the Blues since 2017. However, he is a devout supporter of the football club and enjoys a good relationship with many of the Chelsea players.

So, on Chilwell’s birthday, Terry commented “Happy Birthday” in response to the Chelsea Official Instagram account’s celebratory announcement. He reinforced the bromance by tagging the 27-year-old in the comment with a blue heart emoji.

Jack Grealish, Thiago Silva and Reece James are three other notable personalities who also passed on their best wishes to the Chilwell. But the birthday greetings are not the only source of good news for the former Leicester City man, who is hoping to get back into action in the not too distant future

Napoli president issues Victor Osimhen contract update as Chelsea dealt £110m dilemma
Chelsea have been sent an update regarding Victor Osimhen’s contract talks with Napoli ahead of the January transfer window. Mauricio Pochettino is looking to sign a new striker in the new year to help solve the Blues’ issues in front of goal.

Nicolas Jackson has scored eight goals in 20 appearances across all competitions so far this season – recently ending a run of four straight Premier League fixtures without a goal. Armando Broja has just one goal in 11 appearances for Chelsea after struggling with injury at the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

Ivan Toney looks set to stay at Brentford until the end of the season with the club setting a £100million asking price to let the 27-year-old leave mid-season. football.london understands that Chelsea were keen on signing Osimhen in the summer, but Jackson was signed from Villarreal instead.

The Blues believe that Osimhen is certainly acquirable, but a move in January is unlikely at present. However, there has been an opportunity that will seemingly open up in the months to come as a new contract is set to be signed between Osimhen and Napoli.

It isn’t a usual extension though, as recent reports claim that it will contain a release clause worth roughly £110million. As rumours about the details of a new contract for Osimhen circulate, Napoli president de Laurentiis has offered an update on the Nigerian forward’s future.
