Done Deal ✅: Arsenal set to announce favourites first summer signing ‘dominant’ £52m defender in January

Arsenal are leading the race to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio in the January transfer window.

The Gunners are expected to be active next month. They could do with reinforcements at the back, and Sporting star Inacio has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks.
Arsenal are leading the race to sign Goncalo Inacio

“We are very short at the back,” claimed Mikel Arteta in his press conference after Arsenal’s game against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League this month.

That suggests the Gunners will look to strengthen their defence in the January transfer window, and quite a few names have been linked in recent weeks.
Sporting Lisbon star Goncalo Inacaio is one of them, and the 22-year-old is one of the most talented defenders in Portugal at the moment.

Record claim today that “Arsenal stand to win the race” to sign Inacio and are better placed to get him than Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who have also been linked.

The report adds that Inacio is expected to leave Sporting in January, but if Arsenal want to sign him, they will have to trigger his release clause which is set at £52 million.
Inacio is a ‘dominant‘ centre-back who has all the qualities to be a top defender in the coming years. It’s only a matter of time before he leaves Sporting for a bigger club.
Arsenal should sign Ousmane Diomande instead

Sporting Lisbon have built a solid squad under Ruben Amorim, and it is no surprise that they are currently on top of the Portuguese league table.

Goncalo Inacio has played a big part, but every time we watch Sporting play, we’re more impressed by his partner at the back, Ousmane Diomande. The Ivory Coast international is strong, fantastic on the ball and has already impressed at the top level – he was incredible against Arsenal in the Europa League last season.

Diomande has been linked with a move to Arsenal on plenty of occasions in the past. Reports have even claimed that the Gunners are ‘guaranteed’ to make a move to sign him in 2024.

As good as Inacio is, if it was up to us, we would go after Diomande instead in the January transfer window or at the end of this season.
