Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville disagree on Liverpool vs Arsenal prediction amid Anfield vow

Latest Arsenal news ahead of Liverpool with Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville offering up their predictions for the huge Premier League clash

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville are among the pundits to have both made their predictions for the major clash between Liverpool and Arsenal. The Premier League title race looks set to be a three-way battle this season with reigning champions Manchester City joined by Arsenal and Liverpool, and Saturday’s clash could prove pivotal.

A winner emerging from the fixture would place either Liverpool or Arsenal top outright on Christmas Day with Manchester City at the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. Understandably, given how last season’s 2-2 clash developed, Arteta is expecting an excellent game of football.

It’s going to be a great atmosphere,” Arteta said on Friday. “The two teams are in a really good moment, really good position, really strong position. They are going to be well placed to win it and to go for it. It’s going to be an intense match.”

In his pre-match press conference, Klopp delivered his title verdict from an Arsenal perspective. “They looked like that [title challengers] last year,” he admitted. “Our game here with them, they were outstanding until we found a way into the game. In the end, we should have won it. They bring in Rice and Havertz, that doesn’t make you worse. They have a good mix of physicality and technique. They are well-coached, well-drilled.”

While it is possible a highly tactical chess match is on show at Anfield on Saturday, there is a chance goals will fly in especially as there has been 20 goals scored in the last five games at the home of Liverpool. The Reds are also on a 21-game unbeaten streak, with 12 home wins coming this season, however both Neville and Carragher do not expect them to reach 13.

Liverpool’s home record is unbelievable,” Carragher said on Stick to Football. “I don’t think Liverpool will lose at Anfield. “I think it will be 1-1.” Neville took some time to make his prediction before settling on the idea that the visitors will be the first team to beat Klopp’s men at Anfield since February 2023.

“I don’t think Liverpool will win,” he said in response to Carragher’s comments. “I think Arsenal will win. But Liverpool are just mad, aren’t they? They’re a freak. “I’m going 2-0 Arsenal.”
