Journalist says £80m World Cup winner could have his head turned, Arsenal could afford him with two sales

The Gunners have been linked with a number of potential signings this month, and one player who has been mentioned is Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine is lighting up Serie A at the moment, and while Inter Milan won’t want to lose the player, Martinez himself could be open to a move.

Indeed, speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Martinez’s future, and he says that the striker’s head could be turned and that Arsenal could indeed afford this move if both Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah are sold.

Jones shared what he knows about the striker.

“I’m just saying and this is relatively informed information, it’s not implausible that Lautaro could have his head turned right now. I don’t think it will. But could Inter Milan turn down £80m? (Do Arsenal have £80m?) I don’t think so, but they would if they sold Nketiah and Smith Rowe, and just imagine that, imagine if Arsenal could make something like that happen,” Jones said.

Worth a go
This may be a far-fetched transfer, but it is worth Arsenal asking this question.

There aren’t many strikers out there at the moment that are better than Martinez, and if there’s even the slightest chance that Arsenal could get him to the Emirates, they should be asking some serious questions.

Of course, as Jones says, sales would have to happen at Arsenal if the Gunners were to get this deal done, and that does complicate things, but, as we’ve seen over the past 18 months, Arsenal are happy to move the right chess pieces around to sign players who they think are worthwhile.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on as it’s not every day a player like Martinez potentially comes onto the market.
