Lee Dixon says Arsenal are so much better when Mikel Arteta picks £20m player

Arsenal are the current table-toppers in the Premier League and look like they have the squad to go all the way this year.

After coming close last season before dipping away thanks to a poor run of form, the Gunners look well set this year to keep going. Key to that feeling has been the impact of their new signings.

The likes of Declan Rice and David Raya have had a massive impact, while Kai Havertz has started to show his quality more.

However, the £20m signing of Jakub Kiwior has gone somewhat under the radar. Mikel Arteta brought Kiwior in during the January window in 2023.

And according to Gunners legend Lee Dixon, Arsenal look like a better team when Kiwior plays, despite their being doubters.

Jakub Kiwior makes Arsenal better
Speaking to Flashscore, Dixon spoke on a number of matters Arsenal related. And touching on Kiwior, he admitted he feels Arsenal are a better side when he’s in the back four.

“Ben White’s playing some of the best football that he’s played for a while, and Jakub Kiwior as well. Sometimes, when he gets put on the team sheet, I think people are kind of doubtful. But the back four look like a solid base when Kiwior plays on that left side. He gives a more stable look to the way they perform, and he’s still a good enough footballer to pop into that midfield area when he’s needed,” Dixon said.

A natural defender
While the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko helped transform Arsenal, it’s gone a similar way to how it did at Man City with Arsenal now wanting better defenders in the backline.

Kiwior seems to have given Arsenal that. His form has been excellent of late and he’s been a key reason behind the superb run that has put them top of the table.

For Mikel Arteta, it will be good to see the signing of Kiwior now being justified. There was a time when it looked like it might be a waste of £20m.

But right now, it looks more like a bargain and money very well spent.
