Mark Hughes suggests £45m Arsenal player may cost them the title and it’s not David Raya

Arsenal look in good shape to go on and win the Premier League title.

However, as any Gunners fan will tell you, things can still go seriously wrong from this point.
Indeed, Arsenal know better than any other club that things can quickly go wrong in this situation, and their close call against Luton Town showed that on Tuesday.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Mark Hughes has been discussing Arsenal’s title chances, and he’s suggested that the fact Gabriel Jesus isn’t that prolific could end up costing the Gunners the title.
Jesus could cost Arsenal the title

Hughes shared his verdict on the £45m man.

“You look at Arsenal and they don’t have a striker who’ll score 20/25 goals a year that City have with Haaland. Jesus, I love the way he plays, and he’s key to the patterns Arsenal weave. Will the fact he’s a 10/15 goal a season be the difference? We’ll have to wait and see,” Hughes said.

Should have enough

As much as having a 25-goal-a-season striker is important for any club, Arsenal should have enough with Jesus leading their line.

Jesus has what it takes to score 15 a season, and he’s also won three league titles before arriving at the Emirates.
Manchester City themselves proved in the 2021/22 season that they didn’t need a hugely prolific centre-forward to go and win the league, and Arsenal are in that same boat right now.

Arsenal aren’t top of the league right now by coincidence, they have been absolutely brilliant so far this season, and if they can carry that form through to the second-half of the campaign, they will be able to go on and secure their first title in 20 years.

Jesus has what it takes to lead Arsenal to this title.
