Mikel Arteta completes ‘secret’ Arsenal transfer ahead of Liverpool FA Cup clash

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal may have completed an under-the-radar move in the January transfer window. The Gunners look unlikely to complete any marquee deals in the winter trading period following their £200million summer splurge to sign Jurrien Timber, Kai Havertz and Declan Rice ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney, Martin Zubimendi, Amadou Onana and even Kylian Mbappe have been just some of the names linked with an Emirates Stadium switch. However, to comply with FFP rules, Arsenal making a permanent signing does look unlikely despite the need for further defensive depth.

Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey have both missed large portions of this campaign already with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu prone to injuries. The Ukraine international missed last weekend’s defeat to Fulham with Tomiyasu returning for the London derby before heading off to the Asia Cup with Japan.

The reason that is so surprising is because Biereth has spent the first half of the season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Motherwell. The 20-year-old has been in impressive in front of goal with three assists in his last two games with six goals from 15 games and with no club statement from either Arsenal or Motherwell, the impression would be that he still north of the border but the photos from north London suggests otherwise.

While probably not the type of option Arteta will want, it is another body in his squad to contend with the numerous injury absences with a chance he makes the squad to face Liverpool on Sunday.
