Not just Osimhen and Toney, £43m ‘next Haaland’ is now also ‘admired by Arsenal’

Arsenal have been linked with several strikers ahead of the January transfer window, and one of those is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

The 20-year-old has been linked with Arsenal previously and although they were told he’s in no hurry to leave the Bundesliga giants, that hasn’t stopped Mikel Arteta pursuing a move for the wonderkid.

The Slovenia star moved from Red Bull Salzburg to Bundesliga partner RB Leipzig in the summer and has since attracted interest from fellow Premier League side, Manchester United.

He has netted seven times in 22 appearances across all competitions this term and while that isn’t a prolific record, there is confidence that he can reach the potential that saw writer Ryan Taylor label him as ‘generational talent’.

Arsenal admire Benjamin Sesko
According to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, Sesko is one of many strikers that Arsenal admire, including Victor Osimhen and Evan Ferguson, although he admits it’ll be a long process to land any of them.

He wrote: “Even if Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko and Evan Ferguson are among those admired by Arsenal (and many other clubs), it is not anticipated they will land at the Emirates Stadium soon.”

It was reported last month that the Gunners were willing to launch a move for the striker, though Fabrizio Romano confirmed that it was nothing advanced, just normal scouting activity.

With that being said, Arsenal are in desperate need of a striker to challenge Gabriel Jesus and Sesko could prove to be a cost-efficient move in comparison to the likes of Osimhen and Ferguson.

Surprisingly, Leipzig value Sesko at just £43 million and given the ceiling of potential he boasts, this could prove to be a smart piece of business.

Should Arsenal sign Benjamin Sesko?
Sesko could provide Arteta with a different option to lead their line.

Standing at 6 foot 3, the 24-cap Slovenia international possesses the size and stature to provide the Gunners with a new dimension at the top end of the pitch.

As a lone striker, he’d be required to hold off defenders, retain possession and offload the ball to his teammates, and that is something he is great at doing.

Although Jesus has proven he can protect the ball well and link play, he has been criticised for his lacklustre finishing at times, while Sesko has been praised for how lethal he is in the box.

Labelled as the ‘new Erling Haaland’, the 20-year-old has scored 68 goals in 159 appearances across his career and for someone of his age, those are impressive numbers.

While it would be a tall order for Sesko to hit the ground running in the Premier League and fire Arsenal to the title, he is worth taking a chance on just for his potential alone.
