Nwaneri, Walters chance and loanee recalled – Three things spotted in Arsenal training

Arsenal will be aiming to produce a statement performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

The Gunners are taking a break from the Premier League title race to focus on another piece of silverware. Mikel Arteta’s side face a tough task to advance to the fourth round but will have home advantage over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal were put through their paces at London Colney for the last time ahead of Sunday’s game. Here are three things that could be gleaned from Arsenal’s latest training session as they prepare to take on Liverpool:

The FA Cup may be a major honour, steeped in tradition, but it also offers Arsenal an opportunity to rotate their side. The Gunners have suffered a dip in form in recent weeks and will hope to use the cup competition to get back to winning ways, while possibly resting some of their key players.

Reuell Walters and Ethan Nwaneri were two Hale End graduates who could be seen training with the first-team group ahead of the FA Cup clash. Walters, 19, will be hoping to make his first team debut, having been included in six matchday squads so far this season. Nwaneri, 16, was handed his senior bow last season and will be hoping to gain more valuable experience against Liverpool.

Meanwhile, full-back Lino Sousa was another prospect training alongside the first team squad. The 18-year-old was last named in a matchday squad against Brentford, back in September 2022.

Mauro Bandeira returned to Arsenal training after being recalled from his loan spell at Colchester United. The midfielder made nine league appearances for the League Two side but a tough start to the season for the club, followed by a change of manager, led his opportunities to become limited.

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will opt to send the 20-year-old for a second loan spell away from the club but training with Mikel Arteta’s side will also aid him.

Arsenal’s form in the Premier League may have suffered a slump but morale appears to still be high within the groups. The photos captured of the latest training session showed both Jorginho and Gabriel enjoying bursts of laughter as the Gunners prepare to advance in the FA Cup.

Manager Mikel Arteta knows what it takes to lift the famous trophy, both as a player and manager, and will be hoping to win the competition for the 15th time in the club’s history.
