‘Perfection’… Alan Shearer was absolutely amazed by £50m Arsenal player against Luton last night

Although there were a lot of brilliant performances for Arsenal against Luton Town, Alan Shearer was amazed by one individual display.

Shearer was covering the game for Amazon Prime Video and was discussing the match with Thierry Henry after full time.
And when reviewing the goals Arsenal scored, Shearer was amazed by the ‘intelligence’ that Ben White showed against Luton.

The pundit was referring to White’s assist for Gabriel Jesus’ goal to make the game 2-1, and was left in awe of his delightful cross – one that he would have enjoyed in his playing days.
Shearer said: “The give and go here is just, and then it’s Ben White – ‘how do you want it? Do you want it on a plate? There you go, just go an tuck it away from two yards out’

“It’s a brilliant piece of play by Ben White down that right hand side.

“The intelligence, the cross is perfection – hang it up there and say ‘go on, get on the end of it’, brilliant.”
Of course, it was a huge boost to have £50m Ben White back in the side, even if it was due to an injury to Takehiro Tomiyasu.

And Mikel Arteta did give a worrying update on that injury after the game.

Although Declan Rice’s late-winner will deservedly dominate the headlines, there were a few understated performances in an Arsenal shirt – White’s being one of them.

And Thierry Henry did also spot something he loved about Bukayo Saka’s display.
Now often marked by two defenders, Henry loved Saka’s step back into midfield in the first half – something he actually compared to Kevin De Bruyne.

It ended up being a momentous night for Arsenal, one that saved David Raya’s blushes.

The Spaniard probably won’t enjoy reviewing the game, but will be grateful for his teammates.

Shearer and co were focusing on the positives for Arsenal against Luton, but there was certainly a lot to ponder after a rare poor performance at the back, too.

And although some may expect Aaron Ramsdale to now come back in, Arteta does seem unlikely to make a change.
