Petr Cech says something ‘really interesting’ has happened to two Arsenal players this season

Petr Cech has been discussing the situation of Arsenal goalkeepers David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale this season.

David Raya has nailed down his place as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper after his summer switch from Brentford.

Mikel Arteta’s decision to move for a new man between the sticks certainly raised eyebrows at the time after Aaron Ramsdale enjoyed a brilliant campaign last time out

Ramsdale has managed just five starts in the Premier League this term and it’s led to a departure this summer being described as ‘inevitable’.

There has been plenty of talk surrounding Ramsdale’s future and former Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is certainly intrigued by the situation.

Cech says Ramsdale and Raya situation is ‘really interesting
Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Cech claimed there isn’t much between Raya and Ramsdale when it comes to ability.

The situation of Ramsdale and Raya is really interesting,” he said. “When you look at them both, there is a competition where both goalkeepers are pretty much one like another.

“So obviously it’s the coach’s decision. But you find stuff like that where it depends what you want from the players to play

Despite a shaky start to life at Arsenal, Raya is beginning to justify Arteta’s decision to bring him in.

The Spaniard has looked composed with the ball at his feet in recent weeks and has barely put a foot wrong.

But with Ramsdale still at the club, there are inevitably comparisons drawn between the duo whenever Raya is called into question.

Arsenal’s defeat at Porto in the Champions League led to some questioning whether Ramsdale would have kept Galeno’s effort out.

While Arteta would undoubtedly love to have two goalkeepers of that quality in his squad, you’d imagine that Ramsdale will be keen to move on over the summer.

That may also ease some of the pressure that remains on Raya’s shoulders.
