Juventus’ misfiring £70 million striker Dusan Vlahovic fears he may have missed his Premier League chance as Arsenal look elsewhere in pursuit of a new number nine.

With Mikel Arteta’s league leaders arguably crying out for an elite-level number nine – Eddie Nketiah inconsistent and Gabriel Jesus far from prolific – the likes of Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen and Santiago Gimenez have all been linked with a big-money move to the Emirates in recent weeks.
But Dusan Vlahovic? His name has been largely absent from the discussions thus far, in stark contrast to 18 months ago when Juventus fought off competition from all across the continent while agreeing a £70 million deal from Fiorentina.
Dusan Vlahovic misses Arsenal chance

Vlahovic, at the time, was perhaps the most coveted striker in Europe not called Erling Haaland. But, since that high-profile move to Turin, the Serbian’s confidence and his reputation has slowly been eroded. He scored only 14 goals in 2022/23 and has just five so far this season too.
And, according to TEAMtalk, Vlahovic is ‘worried’ that the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal will look elsewhere in pursuit of a centre-forward, with the Belgrade-born 23-year-old potentially missing the boat as far as a mega-money switch to the Premier League is concerned.

TEAMtalk adds that Chelsea opted for Villarreal’s Nicolas Jackson over Vlahovic in the summer. Paris Saint-Germain did similar, bringing in Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani instead.

Now, Vlahovic’s Juventus struggles are not all his own fault. Max Allegri’s side do not exactly create a bucketload of opportunities, with their striker often isolated in attack.
Arsenal agreed a fee in 2022

And, if he could turn back the clock, one suspects that Vlahovic would have second thoughts about putting pen to paper with the Bianconeri in the first place. Especially at a time in which Arsenal were desperate to bring him to London.

The Gunners tried and failed to land Vlahovic in a swap deal involving Lucas Torreira, and were beaten to the punch after agreeing a £62 million fee with Fiorentina.

“Now, Arsenal are a bit angry because they wanted Vlahovic,” said Pablo Bentancur, Torreira’s agent. “Fiorentina wanted to sell him but the agents said he had to go to Juventus.”
