Terrible’… Gary Neville slams 24-year-old Arsenal player after what he did vs Liverpool

Gary Neville was left unimpressed after Arsenal forward Kai Havertz wasted a late chance during yesterday’s draw at Liverpool.

Arsenal picked up a hard-fought point at Anfield after taking an early lead through Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Brazilian netted with a well-taken header after a brilliant delivery by Martin Odegaard to get Mikel Arteta’s men off to a flyer.

Mohamed Salah levelled things up just before the half-hour mark by beating Oleksandr Zinchenko before producing an exceptional finish.

It’s fair to say that chances weren’t easy to come by for Arsenal, apart from Gabriel Martinelli going close in the first half.

But an opening did fall to Kai Havertz in the 80th minute after a brilliantly-worked move from the Gunners.

It resulted in Leandro Trossard’s cross being blocked by Ibrahima Konate and the ball fell kindly to Havertz inside the box.

The German produced a tame effort which was dragged comfortably wide of Alisson Becker’s near post.

And Gary Neville was unimpressed with the 24-year-old while covering the game on Sky Sports.

Havertz had an appeal for a penalty turned down just moments before he got another opportunity to test Alisson.

The German attempted an audacious effort with the outside of his boot but it never threatened to trouble Alisson. And Neville feels Havertz simply should have done better in the situation.

That’s terrible from Havertz,” Neville said. “He’s got to do better than that.

“He’s asking for a penalty, I don’t think it is.”

Havertz was a man in form heading into yesterday’s game, having netted three goals in his last five Premier League appearances beforehand.

But it didn’t quite happen for the former Chelsea man at Anfield, despite enjoying some decent moments.

Nevertheless, Arsenal are likely to be satisfied with a point as it ensures they will head into Christmas as league leaders once again.
