Thierry Henry ‘loved’ Martin Odegaard Arsenal interview after one-word Barcelona response

Arsenal earned a comfortable 6-0 win at Sheffield United on Monday evening to stay within touching distance of Manchester City and Liverpool

Thierry Henry was full of praise for Martin Odegaard’s post-match interview after Arsenal’s 6-0 win at Sheffield United on Monday night.

The Norwegian midfielder opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the game and took full control of the contest by adding four further goals before half-time

Speaking to Sky Sports after the full-time whistle, Odegaard shared his thoughts on the team’s pressing and made a positive impression on Henry after one particular comment.

Explaining exactly what it was Odegaard said that resonated so strongly, Henry remarked: “He said a word that I used to love and I understood that at Barcelona, because we were playing the same way. What was impressive for me at Barcelona was the way we recovered the ball and put pressure on

But I wanted to know we were safe to go, he used the exact same word. Because when you go and put pressure, you don’t want to go and do this [are they following me?]. He is not looking [around] thinking shall I go? They are gone!”

Offering his own thoughts on Arsenal’s six-goal performance, Arteta said: “I loved the way the team played. The quality we showed, the aggression with and without the ball. We were very determined from the beginning. We were all worried because it is a very tricky game against a team that had done well against some big teams as well. I am really happy with the win, the goals we scored and the clean sheet.”
