Very underrated’… Jamie Carragher says 25-year-old Arsenal player’s passing is actually amazing

Declan Rice has shown another side to his game in recent weeks.

The England international has been playing in a more advanced role for Arsenal as of late as Jorginho has come back into the team, and to say that Rice has improved alongside Jorginho is an understatement.

The midfielder has been utterly brilliant in his more advanced role, and speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher has been full of praise for the midfielder.

Carragher says he’s really glad that Rice is starting to contribute in the attack, claiming that his passing has been underrated for a long time and his goalscoring may well be seen as another underrated attribute in the future.

Declan Rice’s passing is underrated
Carragher shared his verdict on the 25-year-old.

“I’m delighted Declan Rice is getting goals because I have always been a big admirer of Declan Rice. It’s easy to be an admirer because he’s a top player, there’s no doubt about that. But there used to be a criticism of him that he can’t be a great midfield player because he doesn’t score enough goals,” Carragher said.

“Now my argument was that if he is playing in sitting midfield, that you can’t have a go at Declan Rice if he played in midfield at West Ham in a team which liked to counter attack, and he then comes to Arsenal and is at the base of a midfield three.

“His job was to sit there. So I didn’t understand the criticism but I always felt he had the ability to do that and so did his manager and we are seeing it at times when he is playing in the high eight position. His passing is very underrated and hopefully as time goes on we will talk about his goalscoring ability being underrated.”

Has it all
Declan Rice hasn’t necessarily been able to showcase his attacking abilities in recent years as he’s played as a holding midfielder, but, make no mistake about it, he has it all.

Rice is just as good a passer and a finisher as he is a tackler and interceptor, and Arsenal are seeing that now as he starts to play a bit further forward.

This run of form has been fantastic, and if Rice keeps this up, he could take the Gunners to a Premier League title.
