Brentford players were furious with referee Rob Jones after their 2-1 defeat at Arsenal as they felt Kai Havertz should have been sent off before scoring the late winner

Brentford players were so incensed with the late Arsenal winner at the Emirates Stadium that they confronted referee Rob Jones in the tunnel after the game. There was controversy after Kai Havertz netted the late winner, with Brentford feeling the German should have been sent off earlier in the match.

Brentford’s Nathan Collins was especially angry at Havertz during the tunnel bust-up. Our sister site the Mirror report that he was heard yelling words like “(swear word) disgrace” and “cheat” at him.

Referee Rob Jones was also at the centre of the Bees’ ire and had to stop in the tunnel to have words with the visiting players. The incident was not reported by Jones and therefore there will be no consequences for Brentford

Havertz was booked in the first half and then in the second period went down in the box looking for a penalty, falling over a challenge from Collins with replays showing there was no contact between the players. Havertz would go on to net the winner, leading to the anger.

After the match, Bees boss Thomas Frank said: “I’m so proud of the team and the players. We’ve come here to Arsenal who have scored 100 goals in I don’t know how many games and we limited them. It was almost a defensive masterclass
