What people often say when Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein is mentioned

Journalist James Benge has shared what everyone says about Arsenal’s third choice goalkeeper Karl Hein, as he suggested that he expects the Estonia international to leave the club this summer.

Karl Hein has arguably one of the most difficult roles in football. Of course, some would lazily assume that being a number three would be incredibly easy.

However, it must be demoralising for any player – unless they are right at the end of their careers – to train all week while knowing they probably are not going to play a minute. Certainly, they need the freakiest injury crisis to strike to move themselves far enough up the pecking order.

What many say about Karl Hein as Arsenal contract runs down
Hein has actually only made one appearance for Arsenal since his arrival in 2018. That came in the Carabao Cup last year. He is in the bizarre position of being a regular for his country while seeing barely any game-time for his club.

Unsurprisingly, James Benge believes that there is a good chance that Hein will leave the Emirates. But, speaking on Inside Arsenal: Extra Time, the journalist noted that those he speaks to only have positive things to say about the youngster.

“Karl Hein, I believe, is also out of contract,” he said.

“Keep an eye on that one. They will talk to Karl about what he wants. Estonia number one. He’s a player, by the way, I’ve not spoken to him before and I don’t speak to many people about him, but when his name comes up, everyone talks about what a nice lad he is. Wouldn’t shock me though if he went to pastures new to get a number one spot.”

Gunners would surely love to keep goalkeeper
It is probably a situation where Mikel Arteta would be delighted if Hein was happy to stay. The goalkeeping unit has been so impressive for Arsenal this season. Obviously, David Raya is the one playing most weeks. But both Aaron Ramsdale and Hein have to take some credit as well.

They are the ones pushing Raya every day at London Colney. And if Hein is a positive influence, there is no reason for Arsenal to let him go without asking the question first.

Of course, he is likely to have his dreams of being first-choice somewhere. And with that, this summer may be deemed the right time to move on, as Benge suggests.

But clearly, it would be a disappointment for those who work with Hein regularly to see him head elsewhere.
