Why Thierry Henry could be Arsenal’s secret weapon in Jeanuel Belocian transfer race

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is on the hunt for a left-sided defender to help bolster his options with the summer transfer window approaching

Arsenal are reportedly interested in making a transfer approach for Rennes defender Jeanuel Belocian this summer.

The 19-year-old is a centre-back by trade however he has been implemented in the left-back role for his club this season. Belocian has impressed in France this season and has enjoyed a breakout campaign for his club.

The Frenchman has already made 22 appearances this season and is also making strides for the national team. In November, the youngster made his debut for France’s U21s with the Gunners legend Thierry Henry handing him his debut

Henry played Belocian at left-back for the European U21 Championship qualifier against Austria with the youngster lasting the full 90 minutes. Thanks to his close connection with the Gunners, Henry may be asked by Mikel Arteta to help convince him that a move to the Emirates Stadium would be best for his career.

Arteta will be looking at alternative options on the left side of defence after receiving a blow in his pursuit of his first choice Jorrel Hato this week. Ajax’s teenager is expected to sign a new contract with the Amsterdam club with reports in the Netherlands suggesting he will be committed to the Eredivisie giants until 2028.
