You’re so smug’… Michael Owen responds to Ian Wright after claim about Arsenal in title race

Arsenal are well within the race for the Premier League title this season as they sit top of the table ahead of a huge clash against Manchester City – and Michael Owen told Ian Wright he is “smug”.

The Gunners go into Sunday’s game against the Premier League champions with Mikel Arteta‘s side at the top of the table. But, Arsenal are only top on goal difference above Liverpool, both on 64 points.

Manchester City sit in third, but only a point behind – making Sunday’s game absolutely pivotal. Right now, Arsenal have scored more goals than anyone else with 70 goals from just 28 games this season.

They also boast the best defensive record, conceding only 24 goals – with a goal difference of a huge 46. Owen was told Arsenal’s impressive stats by Kelly Cates, as Wright smiled next to the presenter.

Owen barked back, on the Kelly and Wrighty Show: “You’re so smug! Those things that you mentioned [best defence, attacking stats], that doesn’t mean that Arsenal go to Manchester City as favourites.”

So, all eyes turn to Sunday – in what is a massive game in the race for the title. Liverpool are in action just before Sunday’s huge battle, playing host to Brighton as Alexis Mac Allister faces his old side.

A win for Liverpool takes them three clear before Arsenal and City play. For the Reds, it is a must-win game in order to pile the pressure on both Arsenal and City. A draw might be Liverpool’s best result.

Wright has a reason to be smug, though. Arsenal are on fire, perhaps producing the best form of Mikel Arteta’s era as manager. But Arsenal are going to City, and Pep Guardiola’s side are still favourites.
